Defending GTSA Champion George Kurtz Aims to Continue Success in PWC Opener
CrowdStrike continues PWC involvement with all-new Audi R8 car and status as an official series sponsor
Sunnyvale, Calif. (March 06, 2018) — George Kurtz, defending 2017 GTSA champion of the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) GTS class, is anticipating the start of the race season opener in St. Petersburg, Florida. Kurtz, CEO of cybersecurity technology company CrowdStrike, will race the No. 04 CrowdStrike/GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 in a doubleheader event on the seaside street course from March 9 to 11.
Kurtz stood on the podium last year an impressive 12 times, swiftly making his way to achieving the GTSA-class points Championship. He’ll enter this season once again with Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing), which will prepare the Audi for the intense GTSA and SprintX competition. Kurtz earned a podium finish last year at St. Petersburg, setting a winning tone in the opening race of the PWC season.
CrowdStrike also returns to PWC in an enviable position: as a corporate business partner. As the Official Series Sponsor and Cybersecurity Provider for the 2018 season, the security leader will expand both its appeal and access in motorsports. CrowdStrike will host its second CXO Summit of the year in the festival-like atmosphere at St. Petersburg, creating valuable networking opportunities for executive security industry guests to discuss key cyber events and trends. With 11 different races at the season opener, including the Verizon IndyCar series as the weekend’s headliner and Kurtz racing Rounds 01 and 02 in the PWC GTSA class, CrowdStrike guests are in for a treat.
“I’m excited to be racing our new Audi R8 LMS GT4 in 2018,” Kurtz confirmed. “St. Pete is a beautiful place to have the season opener, and we’re excited to be back in PWC with a car prepared by GMG. The competition this year continues to be outstanding, and with such a large field of GTS cars, it will a fantastic event for the fans. Our CrowdStrike guests are sure to enjoy this race weekend as well.”
The first practice session in St. Petersburg is on Friday, March 9. Qualifying begins on Saturday at 9:40 a.m. Race 1, the first of two 50-minute races, runs from 5:05 to 6:05 that evening, with Race 2 at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
