CrowdStrike Adds Sponsorship of IndyCar Star Herta for Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (April 10, 2019) – Already heavily involved in the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend, CrowdStrike announced today a new sponsorship alongside one of the NTT IndyCar Series’ brightest young stars.

Cybersecurity company CrowdStrike joins Harding Steinbrenner Racing as a partner of its No. 88 Honda for Colton Herta during the Long Beach weekend – the third round of the 2019 IndyCar Series. Sunday’s race is set for 1 p.m. PT on Sunday, April 14 with live coverage on NBC Sports Network.

Herta – from nearby Valencia, California and only 19 years old – became the youngest race-winner in series history last month with a victory at Circuit of The Americas at the age of 18. It came in just his third career IndyCar start.

The relationship between CrowdStrike and Herta is not a new one. Herta and his father, Bryan, teamed with CrowdStrike CEO and co-founder George Kurtz in a TCR class-winning effort for Bryan Herta Autosport in the 2018 California 8 Hours in the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

“I’ve known Colton for some time and had the opportunity to share the top step of the winners’ podium with him and Bryan after our class win at last year’s California 8 Hours race,” Kurtz said. “He’s young, but Colton is already a world-class driver, as shown by his championships and successes the last two years. He obviously has a bright future ahead, and CrowdStrike is pleased to support his race in Long Beach fresh after his victory in Austin.”

The younger Herta finished second in the 2018 Indy Lights championship with four victories, including the Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He also opened 2019 with a GT Le Mans class victory for BMW Team RLL in the Rolex 24 At Daytona, in which he also set the fastest GTLM race lap.

This new relationship with the team is one part of CrowdStrike’s rapidly expanding growth and, along with it, a global presence in motorsports.

“Everyone at Harding Steinbrenner Racing is excited that CrowdStrike will join us for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach,” said team co-owner George Michael Steinbrenner IV. “A strong competitor in the growingly important realm of cyber security, and they share our passion for motor racing.”

“We are very much looking forward to this weekend with such a well-known brand on board for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach,” said team co-owner Mike Harding. “CrowdStrike is a perfect fit for Harding Steinbrenner Racing, and I hope we can bring them to victory lane this weekend.”

The sponsorship of Herta’s IndyCar goes along with CrowdStrike’s entries for CJ Moses and James Sofronas in the Pirelli GT4 America Championship at Long Beach. Each will drive CrowdStrike-sponsored Audi R8 LMS GT4 cars, prepared by Global Motorsports Group (GMG).

Also at Long Beach, CrowdStrike will host its third CXO Summit meeting of the season with discussions on cybersecurity issues from industry leaders including Kurtz and CrowdStrike COO Colin Black.

CrowdStrike guests also will enjoy roof-top hospitality and race viewing from inside the Long Beach circuit. They also will have opportunities to participate in hot laps with racing legend Mario Andretti as well as a Q&A session with the four-time Long Beach race-winner in addition to meet-and-greets with HSR’s Herta and Al Unser, Jr.

The Pirelli GT4 America Streets of Long Beach presented by AWS is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT on Sunday, April 14. The Acura Long Beach Grand Prix for the NTT IndyCar Series is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT on Sunday.

Indianapolis based Harding Steinbrenner Racing is led by Indianapolis businessman Mike Harding and George Michael Steinbrenner IV. Brian Barnhart is team president, and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr. serves the team as executive consultant. Harding Steinbrenner competes in the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series full-time with rookie driver, Colton Herta, driver of the No. 88 Honda-powered Indy car.

Colton Herta began racing go-karts at the age of four. At 12, he turned to cars and promptly won the Pacific F1600 Series championship and finished second in the Skip Barber Summer Series. At 16 years old, the Valencia, California, native quickly impressed by winning the second race of the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship 2017 season. That year he also led the series with seven pole positions, set five new track records and earned Rookie of the Year honors. Most recently, Herta became the youngest winner in NTT IndyCar Series history after winning the INDYCAR Classic. He has also won the 2019 Rolex 24 Hours IMSA race with the Rahal Letterman Racing team and placed second in the 2018 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship with four wins, three pole positions and 13 podium finishes.
